How to download your Factorio save to your PC Print

  • 0

This article explains how to download your Factorio save from your PlayNHost server to your PC, either as a backup or to continue it in singleplayer.

1. Stop the server (recommended)

Stopping the server while you download prevents the save from changing during the copy.

  1. Go to https://panel.playnhost.com and log in.
  2. Select your Factorio server.
  3. On the server dashboard, click Stop and wait until the server is fully offline.

2. Locate your Factorio save file

Factorio saves are stored as .zip files on the server.

  1. In the Game Panel, open the File Manager for your Factorio server.
  2. Browse to the saves directory (usually a folder named saves in the server root).
  3. You should see one or more save files such as myfactory.zip.
  4. If you are not sure which save is currently in use, check your startup/save setting or console logs to see which file the server is loading.

3. Download the save via File Manager

  1. In the saves folder, find the .zip file you want to download.
  2. Click the Download option for that file.
  3. Choose a location on your PC to save it (for example, your desktop or documents folder).

This .zip file is your complete Factorio save. Keep it safe – you can upload it again later if you need to restore your world.

4. Download the save via SFTP (advanced)

If you prefer, you can use SFTP instead of the File Manager.

  • In the Client Area at https://playnhost.com/billing, open your Factorio service and find your SFTP connection details (host, port, username, password).
  • Open an SFTP client such as FileZilla.
  • Connect using those details.
  • Browse to the saves directory on the server.
  • Drag the desired .zip save file from the server to a folder on your PC.

5. Use the save in singleplayer

To play this save locally on your own Factorio installation:

  • Make sure the file still has the .zip extension (do not extract it).
  • On Windows, press Win + R, type %appdata%\Factorio\saves and press Enter.
  • Copy your downloaded .zip save into the saves folder.
  • Start Factorio, click Load Game and you should see your save in the list.

6. Restart your server

  1. After downloading, go back to https://panel.playnhost.com.
  2. Select your Factorio server and click Start.

Downloading the save does not remove it from the server, so your hosted world will continue from the same point.

7. Restoring this save to PlayNHost later

If you want to restore this save back to your PlayNHost Factorio server in the future, follow the steps in “How to upload a single-player save to your Factorio server” and use this .zip file instead.
