How to download your Terraria world to your PC Print

  • 0

This article explains how to download your Terraria world from your PlayNHost server to your PC, either as a backup or to continue it in singleplayer.

1. Stop the server (recommended)

Stopping the server while you download prevents the world from changing during the copy.

  1. Go to https://panel.playnhost.com and log in.
  2. Select your Terraria server.
  3. On the server dashboard, click Stop and wait until the server is fully offline.

2. Locate your Terraria world file

Terraria worlds are stored as .wld files on the server.

  1. In the Game Panel, open the File Manager for your Terraria server.
  2. Browse to the folder where your server worlds are stored. This is usually a directory named worlds or similar.
  3. Inside this folder you should see one or more files with the .wld extension (for example, MyWorld.wld).
  4. If you have several worlds and are not sure which one is active, check your Terraria configuration file (for example serverconfig.txt) to see which world name it is using.

3. Create an archive (if supported)

This step is optional but gives you a single file that is easy to download and store.

  • In File Manager, select your .wld file.
  • If the File Manager has a Compress or Archive option, use it to create a .zip file (for example, MyWorld.zip).
  • Wait for the archive to be created.

If compression is not available, you can simply download the .wld file directly in the next step.

4. Download the world from File Manager

  1. In File Manager, find either:
    • The .zip archive you just created, or
    • The original .wld world file.
  2. Click the Download option for that file.
  3. Choose a location on your PC to save it (for example, your desktop or downloads folder).

5. Download via SFTP (advanced option)

If you prefer, you can use SFTP to download the world file instead of the File Manager.

  • In the Client Area at https://playnhost.com/billing, open your Terraria service and find your SFTP connection details (host, port, username, password).
  • Open an SFTP client such as FileZilla.
  • Connect using those details.
  • Browse to the folder that contains your .wld world file.
  • Drag the .wld file (or its .zip) from the server to a folder on your PC.

6. Use the world in singleplayer

To play your downloaded world locally:

  • If you downloaded a .zip, extract it so you have the .wld file.
  • On Windows, open File Explorer and go to:
    Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds
  • Move or copy the .wld file into the Worlds folder.
  • Start Terraria, click Single Player, choose your character and you should see your server world in the list.

7. Restart your server

  1. Return to https://panel.playnhost.com.
  2. Select your Terraria server and click Start.

Downloading your world does not delete it from the server, so your online players can continue where they left off.

8. Restoring this backup later

If you ever want to restore this world back to your PlayNHost server, follow the steps in “How to use a custom Terraria world on your server” and upload this .wld file instead.
